When i was younger, i am 71 now, my mum and dad and myself stayed at 11 Mereside which i think belonged to the family as well, i was about 13 or 14 at the time.I think we visited it about 4 or 5 times, from me being 11 till i was 15.
In no9 was Hannah, Mrs Emmerson as we knew her, what a lovely woman, she was a widow and i think her husband had been coxwain of the Flamboro' lifeboat, although i never met him.
I remember the big black fire range in the living room and the little toilet out the back door, out at the back there were lots of sheds with what seemed like hundreds of crab and lobster pots, and of course the cobles at North Landing.
There was also Mr Traves who had the grocers shop in the village and there was his son who later bought the Flaneburg hotel on the road to North Landing.
I remember exploring North Landing as a young boy and there were two caves which you could enter, and were cavernous inside and which i believe were used by smugglers.
A few years ago my wife and i visited and i think it was Robert we spoke to who may have been one of Hannah's sons sitting with his fire at North Landing with crabs in his van, hoping for a sale.
We have had a few breaks there and Brid' in the last few years but have had to cancel two because of this horrendous virus .
11 Mereside now looks like a beautiful holiday let, and maybe my wife and i can visit for a break sometime.
I suppose now it will be Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren of the Mrs Emmerson that i knew that are still in the village.
No9 was Mrs Emmerson.. No11 was us.. 13 was a widowed lady and No15 the end house, were i think it was a Mr and Mrs Dale, i used to visit them in the evening and he used to play the accordion which i thought was amazing...he also always wore a gansey.

Regards and best wishes...Alan Clark...Paisley ...Scotland

Alan Clarknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4458943759021933734.post-48828434186375531132015-09-17T12:17:16.495+00:002015-09-17T12:17:16.495+00:00nice capturesnice capturesAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02673206605002143046noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4458943759021933734.post-26098718147913564602015-09-17T12:16:52.775+00:002015-09-17T12:16:52.775+00:00nice capturesnice capturesAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02673206605002143046noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4458943759021933734.post-33972908932139271892014-07-01T02:39:44.580+00:002014-07-01T02:39:44.580+00:00Strong... We had many great holidays there in the 50's & 60's as kids. Used to spend probably 7 weeks there every year. Both Robert & Norman were great with my brother & I. We used to help them unload the catch of the day and collect the 1 shilling for a coble trip around to smugglers cave and Bempton cliffs. What prompted me to turn to Google was that I am looking at a wonderful commemorative medal (set in a dark leather and silk lined purse) with the words 'Regata Brest-Canarias 1958' on it. I think it was my grandfathers (he lived in Las Palmas then). Perhaps he sailed out on one? Somehow I feel it should be re-united with one of the old square-rigged ships :)
PS - great photos!Nick Staibhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12588890957764912572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4458943759021933734.post-77908666753039075682012-07-28T16:09:59.381+00:002012-07-28T16:09:59.381+00:00I like your blog and pictures.
